Do I need a visa to change my flight?

I am planning to travel to Iran from Sydney.I have bought two tickets seperately ;one for Sydney-Bangkok and one for Bangkok-Tehran for the same day.I dont have an Australian Pport and not planning to stay in Bangkok.Do I need a visa?If no,What happens to my luggage(since they are two different airlines)?
