How come Kris win and not Adam?

I mean I know you vote for someone you like but Adam Lmabert is wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than Kris. He can sing much better. Some say he lost because he's gay but I don't think that should be the matter cause this is American Idol. We're looking for someone with awesome voice and awesome singing skill.
