What's the real population statistic of the gay population?

Some say it's 2% and others say it's 10% Now if this is true and the population is 2 % then that would mean there are 6,100,000 gay people in America because the U.S population is now at 305 million. If the gay population is at 10% then that would mean that there are 30,500,000 gay people in America. Does anyone really believe that 30 and a half million people are gay?
