Will beet pulp make my horse fat / hyper ?
Both of these feed materials are used to add extra calories. Beet pulp is considered a forage type of food like hay. It is low in sugar and carbohydrates. Brans are very unhealthy for your horse and the harmful effects are different dependent upon the age of the horse. Never ever should brans be feed to any horse on a consistent basis, but they are very harmful to young horses. To get the benefit from the fats in flax, the seed must be boiled to properly remove the oils for proper extraction. I read a paper on the process but it did not make any sense to me. There are many low carbohydrate/low sugar feeds on the market. Depends on the age of your horse, work load, etc. Will not make your horse hyper. Check out the senior feeds.
